I am sure you watched it during the week end. What wonderful matches – Uruguay Vs. Portugal and France Vs. Argentina. in both matches, we saw how players like Cavani of Uruguay and Mbappe of France leading their teams to success.

Uruguay Vs. Portugal: Consider this. Portugal had the ball 61% of time (given 39% ball possession of Uruguay). Portugal had pass accuracy of 84% (compared to 69% of Uruguay). Then why did Portugal, with its star player Ronaldo on their side could not make it to quarterfinals?

Same with France Vs. Argentina. Argentina had the ball 59% of time (leaving 41 % to France) , pass accuracy of Argentina was slightly better and Argentina had Messi and still France was able to win.

Let us ponder and think. What magic did Cavani create for Uruguay?

We may have few lessons for sales and sales conversions here. Each successful sales conversion is a goal scored in the game of business in the field of market.

Having a large number of leads is like having good ball possession. This may not guarantee goals. Large number of sales team members passing leads accurately between each other again may not be helpful.

What matters first is speed. Once you have a lead how fast you take it near the goal post - the speed of response and moving as quickly as possible towards sales closure. We can call it rapid lead response. What matters second is understanding of customer needs accurately. Like Cavani understood how position, direction and speed will result in a goal.

It is possible to create the Cavani and Mbabappe magic in Sales. Just understanding how football works, can be eye opening to sales teams.
